Packaging and display were an important part of the Dansk brand.
In late 1961, Dansk were one of the first design companies to have a ‘pop-up’ shop in Harrods of London,.
The company was formed after a chance encounter between Quistgaard and an American entrepreneur, in Copenhagen.
Dansk Design was formed in the 1954. Producing modernist design, mainly for the USA, and Japanese markets.
Quistgaard, a Danish designer and sculpter, remained the head designer for over three decades.
His designs brought the cool of Scandinavian design in homeware to America and Japan in the 1960s through to the 1980s.
These simple candleholders are a beautiful example of his clean and articulate design.
They also make great bud vases.
Why is it modern? It relies on its form, shape, rather than decoration to create its appeal.
It is true to its materials using glass to reflect the candlelight.
Although untrained, his designs are influenced by the European tradition of the Bauhaus, and the idea of home as pivotal place for good design.
Vases Approx 6.5cm tall with a diameter of approx 7cm.
