1970s Winterling Schwarzenbach Bavaria Western Germany Tea Set Flower / Arabesque pattern.
A 1970s West German, hand-painted coffee set for six, by Winterling Schwarzenbach of Bavaria,
A great mixture of modernist form - angular, geometric - and traditional decoration.
The lids on both the sugar bowl, and coffee pot, are circular, mono-bloc, and wonderfully 1970s modern.
The set is glazed with Winterling's Indian blue, lightly dappled glaze, each piece is handpainted with stylised Sunflowers, Tulips and Rosehips patterning.
The colour, and hold highlights gives the d design an arabesque feel.
The company, like so many German potteries, was started by seven Winterling brothers in Röslau, Bavaria. It was founded as Gebrüder Winterling O.H.G. in 1907. And expanded in the 1950s producing modernist designs for the the new era.
Always, with a traditional influence the company closed at the turn of this Century.
