Candleholder designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard for Dansk Design in the 1960s.
Through a chance encounter between Quistgaard and an American entrepreneur who was visiting Europe - Dansk Design was formed.
Quistgaard, a Danish designer and sculpter, remained the head designer with the company he founded for over three decades.
His designs brought the cool of Scandinavian homeware design to America and Japan in the the 1960s to the 1980s.
This simple candle holder is a beautiful example of his clean and articulate design.*
available as a scented candle - please select scent
1960s: patchouli; roses, and outside festivals
1970s: Teak wood, camomile, and waxed flooring
Why is it modern? It relies on its form, shape, rather than decoration to create its appeal. It is true to its materials using glass to reflect the candlelight. His designs are influenced by the European tradition of the Bauhaus. The candleholders are modular in the way they can stack when not in use. This ‘stacking’ emulates the work of Wilhelm Wagenfeld. He designed the "Kubus" Stacking Containers in the 1930s. The design influenced everything from these candleholders to Tupperware!
The price is for one candleholder
