ARABIA Finland Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist Suvi White Ceramic Vase
Suvi (summer in Finnish) vase designed by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist in 1977.
Moulded relief of flowers, which stand out on the unglazed surface. Glazed on the inside.
Markings: mould-marked Arabia Finland on the bottom. Designer’s initials (GOG) on the side.
The bisque vase is a perfect marrying of medium and her work.
The deep matt of the clay accentuates the clarity of her beautiful illustrations. Her work represents nature realistically, rather than the abstract representations produced by many of her contemporaries.
I think her natural representations are life affirming rather than cloying, or purely nostalgic. Magical.
In production 1977 - 1989 by Arabia porcelain factory in Finland.
Height: 6 inches (152mm)
Diameter: top 2 1/4” (57mm), bottom 2 3/4” (70mm)
