Wonderfully rich grain, hand turned bowl. English, but in a Danish style, it has a radiant patina, which elevates it to a tactile sculpture.
It captures the influences of Mid Century Scandinavian style beautifully. And is a highly crafted piece of design. Which is useful, and not beautiful alone.
Designed by a small English design company, created in the 1970s by a designer / maker, Symonds Turnery.
The round tile is designed by Alan Wallwork, who is an English designer, who has had a long career in studio ceramics after graduating from Goldsmiths, London in the 1960s.
This is an excellent example of his designs for the Johnson Ceramic tile company.
Alan Wallwork, is a thoughtful, technically experimental ceramicist, and increasingly collectible too.
The quality of the design and the materials is impressive
It measures 26cm in diameter.
