Candleholder designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard for Dansk Design in the 1960s.
This simple candle holder comes as a candle and reverts to a candle holder once used.
It is a beautiful example of his clean and articulate design (Priced singularly)*.
📌 History of the designer:
Through a chance encounter in the 1950s, between Quistgaard and an American entrepreneur- Dansk Design was formed.
It provided Scandinavian influenced design - for the home Scandinavian market, and for export too - especially to the USA, and Japan.
Quistgaard, a Danish designer and sculpter, remained the head designer for the company he founded, for over three decades.
His designs brought the cool of Scandinavian design in homeware to America and Japan: from the 1960s through to the 1980s.
Why is it modern? It relies on its form, shape, rather than decoration to create its appeal. It is true to its materials using glass to reflect the candlelight.
His designs are influenced by the European tradition of the Bauhaus. The candleholders are modular in the way they can stack when not in use. This ‘stacking’ emulates the work of Wilhelm Wagenfeld, who designed the "Kubus" Stacking Containers in the 1930s. The design influenced everything from these candleholders to Tupperware!
*Priced singularly.
The candle used in photo is for demonstration only and is not included in the purchase.
