Per Lutken is the leading Danish glass designer of the mid twentieth Century - his work still influences designers today, with its mix of Modernism, and technical know how in glass making.
He has made many iconic pieces, and none more so than his beak vases, first designed in the 1950s. Often called the ‘duckling vase’, it was produced by Holmegaard in the 1950s and 1960s. This vase is dated and signed 1955.
Although Holmegaard, and Lutken are synonymous with producing Smokey grey glass homeware - this example is in a rarer aqua green. Per Lutken produced works in at least 12 different green colour ways.
It is a beautiful piece of glass making the spired by the freeform drop vase, and then reheating to model the ‘beak’ opening.
