Not Scandinavian, but Naaman pottery, from Israel, is heavily influenced by European design. Israel has a strong tradition in design. Bauhaus emigres settled in Israel, and later the USA invested heavily in Israeli design education. Many staff from great American art schools visited and lectured in Israel.
This vase is heavily influenced by the work of Tapio Wirkkala. Especially the work Wirkkala produced for Thomas, part of the Rosenthal Group in Germany. This design is very similar to the Tapio’s design called Blütenfest.
It shows how the language of modernist design is a visual language; open to interpretation and local nuance.
A lovely porcelain vase.
