A hand-thrown red clay vase, from the ‘Atlantis’ range, the deeply carved decoration in a matt black oxide and highlighted inside and out with a white gloss glaze. Semisynthetic looks like Mother-of-Pearl inlay. It is a beautiful rustic finish.
Responding to the Scandinavian ceramics on show at the Festival of Britain in 1951, and their popularity in the following years. “Atlantis” was the name give to a series of hand pieces from the Craft section of Poole Pottery,
These new ‘studio’, hand-finished, ceramics were produced under the direction of Guy Sydenham starting in 1969.
Without chips or marks but an abrasion from the making process - seen in photograph 1 and 7 NOT a fault
