The encased glass provides a beautiful green. A colour scheme which is  distinctive to the 1960s and 70s.

The Piippu or  ‘chimney vase’ has the pure sculptural outline you would expect from Okkolin and captures light beautifully too!

Captures light beautifully too!

And, just as its name reduces the Finnish word for Chimney, savupiippu, to its final two syllables, so the chimney is reduced to its simplest form in Okkolin’s design. A chimney might seem an unusual inspiration for a glass maker but glass and ceramics are synonymous with heat from kilns and furnaces.

Chimneys, in the 1950s and 60s when this design was created, were still a prominent part of city and town skylines. Furthermore, the manufacture of glass and ceramics had distinctive industrial architecture which is dominated by the chimney - you only need to picture search ‘kiln chimneys’ on google to see the shape of this vase come alive in the photographs of industrial relics from Europe’s industrial revolution.

The vase acts as a symbol of a manufacturing past which has mainly disappeared in Europe today.

Our Promise

We do not sell any items which have chips, 'flea bites' or damage above age related marking.

We aim to supply heirloom pieces which will be passed between families or friends for decades to come.

But please note that vintage and antique glass will show signs of age such as wear on the base - but not deep scratching or chipping.

Design and Art Glass may have individual markings within the glass in the form of ash or air bubbles and this is part of the provenance of its making rather than a defect.

We want you to feel safe in ordering our beautiful vintage designs and offer a no-quibble return policy if returned within 30 days unused and undamaged.
