The design is 'Morven' an elegant peat coloured carafe  - designed by Domhnall O’Broin in 1962 for Caithness, Scotland.

Before joining Caithness, O’Broin had worked at Orrefors of Sweden. And the design of this carafe reflects his love of Scandinavian modernism.

It’s outline is geometric, functional and beautifully crafted glass making.

Whilst head designer at Caithness he declared the glass making must be as good as the Scandinavians!

The colour is peat. - Domhnall O’Broin was a glass technologist, and wanted to capture the hues of the Scottish landscape in the glass he created.

The design was produced in the 60s,and in production to the late 70s.

Similar to 1950s designs for iittala and Nuutajarvi Notsjo, produced by Tapio Wirkkala, Kaj Franck et al.

Carafe is 28cm tall, simple lines, and hollow stopper which acts as a measure.

The design is featured in Mark Hill’s book:
Caithness Glass: Loch, Heather & Peat
