A amber pressed glass vase. Made by the Rosice glassworks, part of the Sklo Union group.
Designed by Rudolf Schrötter in 1955, who designed a larger version of this vase too - catalogued as vase #914.
The vase is a good example of the myriad of interpretations of modernism produced in the Czech Republic in the 1960s and 70s
Not the definitive, straight lines often represented in Scandinavian design; but more stylised, with a clear link to the past. It echoes the designs of the 1930s - the excitement of Art Deco, and the Jazz Age. The rich amber colour too, evokes this time I think
It’s nickname ‘lens vase’ captures the way the light is captures, and refracted. The other name often associated with thus design is ‘bullet vase’ which has won it a place in our Scandi Noir Collection too
