Decorative plate in the Piazza series by mid-century Scandinavian designer, Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg, Sweden. An important illustrator, often influenced by surrealism, this particular design is a young man's head morphing into a fish!
Stig Lindberg designed the ”Piazza” (Italian for square) series in 1960 for the Gustavsberg factory. The series consists of one fruit dish and three small plates. This is the plate.
Piazza comes in gently quadratic shapes and surrealistic relief motifs of people and animals. The series was made of flintware with three different colors: black, blue, and turquoise. This is the black version.
