A first look — currently in light conservation. Additional studio photographs will be added as the piece progresses.
A purposeful mid-century bureau and bookcase by Minty of Oxford — the British library specialist whose modular furniture equipped schools, offices and reading rooms across the country in the mid-20th century.
This example displays all the hallmarks of Minty’s practical craftsmanship:
– glazed upper bookcase with original sliding glass doors
– fall-front writing desk with compartmentalised storage
– small internal drawer with its original pull and fittings
– twin lower doors offering enclosed shelving
The oak exterior carries the gentle traces of long institutional use — a surface we are preserving rather than erasing. Light conservation is now underway in our workshop to retain that lived character while reviving the tone and utility of the piece.
As work progresses, further photographs will be added, including studio shots of the interior compartments and desk surface.
