Arabia Reimari Coffee Setting + Large Cup Design, Inkeri Leivo. 1980's.
Sisko Inkeri Leivo-Lindh (1944 - 2010) designer/ artist. Leivo joined Arabia straight from Art school and worked in the Finnish ceramic company for over 40 years from 1969-2010.
(She also produced work for Nuutajärvi Glass and Nikko Company Japan, during this time)
Her work often blended a paired down modernist aesthetic, with muted colours and abstract shapes. Although she was an accomplished illustrator too.
She created the Reimari design in the 1980s, a simple band / stripe glaze on a muted ground. A style which became an influential motif: companies like Habitat, in the UK, used similar utilitarian decoration to capture the ‘ Scandinavian look’
The shape of the cup, saucer, and plate are very representative of the Arabia style too - a mix of modernist outline, tipping a wink to the traditional ceramics - a perfect balance.
