A big, confident presence from Bergboms, Sweden — the kind of lamp that holds a room rather than just sitting in it.
The form is pure late-1960s: a domed acrylic shade seated in a deep collar, glowing soft and even when lit. Space age optimism, the strident new materials of the moment, used with real assurance.
And the acrylic is the point — not a substitute for glass but a material of its moment, moulded into a form glass couldn’t hold, lit with a warmth glass couldn’t give.
Inside, a tier of concentric acrylic baffles does the real work — shielding the bulb so there’s no glare, only an even, warm glow. It’s the same logic that drives the best Scandinavian lighting of the period: the fitting and the light it gives are designed as one thing.
What grounds it is the base. Solid cast iron, with “BERGBOMS” and the model number moulded straight into the metal. A slim chromed stem lifts the shade clear, and the weight does the rest. Nothing flimsy about it a serious design object.
