Candleholder designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard for Dansk Design in the 1960s.
The history of the company started through a chance encounter between Quistgaard and an American entrepreneur, Dansk Design was formed.
Quistgaard, a Danish designer and sculpter, remained the head designer for over three decades. His designs brought the cool of Scandinavian design in homeware to America and Japan in the from the 1960s to the 1980s.
This simple candle holder is a beautiful example of his clean and articulate design. Made for larger candles, it is a beautiful object on its own too
Why is it modern? It relies on its form, shape, rather than decoration to create its appeal. It is true to its materials using glass to reflect the candlelight. His designs are influenced by the European tradition of the Bauhaus.
