Dansk Design ‘Spike’ Candleholders, Jens Harald Quistgaard Clear Glass Vintage Priced as a Pair
Spike design for larger candles. They are lovely objects in themselves. 1960s Design.
Priced as a pair.
Through a chance encounter between Quistgaard and an American entrepreneur 19 the 1950s - Dansk Design was formed.
Quistgaard, a Danish designer and sculpter, he remained the head designer for the company, for over three decades.
His designs brought the cool of Scandinavian design in homeware to America and Japan in the 1960s through to the 1980s.
This simple candle holder is a beautiful example of his clean and articulate design.
Why is it modern? It relies on its form, shape, rather than decoration to create its appeal. It is true to its materials using glass to reflect the candlelight.
His designs are influenced by the European tradition of the Bauhaus. The candleholders are modular in the way they can stack when not in use. This ‘stacking’ emulates the work of Wilhelm Wagenfeld, who designed the "Kubus" Stacking Containers in the 1930s. The design influenced everything from these candleholders to Tupperware!
Priced as a pair.
Approx 6.5cm tall with a top diameter of approx 7cm.
The candle used in photo is for demonstration only and is not included in the purchase.
