Not all Ercol was pale and minimal. This is the richer side of the catalogue.
The Pandora’s Box is one of Ercol’s most distinctive designs — asymmetric, low-slung, with that signature rounded aperture and two smooth-running drawers offset against an open shelf. It sits somewhere between furniture and sculpture. On castors, so it moves with you.
This example is finished in Ercol’s darker elm colourway — the one they chose when they wanted the grain to do the talking. Cathedral figuring across the top, deep and warm, the kind of elm you don’t find in new timber. The dark finish was Ercol’s answer to the teak aesthetic — the rich, serious tone of Scandinavian modernism, made in High Wycombe.
This particular table came to us with provenance. A gift from Ercol itself — given to mark a life occasion of one of their own. Owned carefully, used honestly. There is patina here, not damage.
