Made in the 1960s by an aspiring woodworker attending evening classes, this teak magazine rack borrows its language directly from the professional design of the period — tensioned wire rather than solid panels, keeping the piece visually light despite its solid build.
The joinery is good: mortised end frames, individually set and hand-bent wire spokes rather than a stamped grid, and grain that’s been matched with real care across the lower rail. None of this was mass-produced — someone was paying close attention. Sits with warm, honest patina throughout; the wire has darkened unevenly with age, which we’ve left alone rather than polished out.
Two tiers hold everything from folded newspapers to oversized art books and magazines.
Dimensions: L46.5 x D15.5 x H32cm
Condition: Good vintage condition, wear consistent with age and genuine handmade origin — small settling gaps at some joints, present since construction.
Provenance note: sold to us directly by the maker’s daughter, who confirmed her mother built it in a 1960s woodwork evening class. Family history rather than an attributed design — but a lovely, well-made object in its own right.
