A vivid red leaf-shaped dish from Poole’s Aegean series — each one hand-decorated, each slightly different. This example, marked Poole England 82 and attributed to decorator Diana Davis, shows the expressive, almost improvisational surface Poole achieved under Guy Sydenham and Tony Morris during the 1960s.

Both Sydenham and Morris were influenced by the Scandinavian ceramics they had seen in the Dome of Discovery at the Festival of Britain, a moment that reshaped mid-century British design thinking. That Scandinavian clarity, coupled with Poole’s own experimental glazes, gave rise to work that still feels modern today.

Made in Dorset, this piece carries the quiet confidence of British studio pottery — bold colour, balanced form, and a spirit of invention.
