The design is an example of how Nils Thorsson, as design director, developed a Modernist style for the company in the postwar period.

Thorsson remained with Royal Copenhagen all his working life: from apprentice to retirement. His modernist aesthetic influenced Danish design of his era, and the influence continues today. Hus work often uses dynamic abstract patterning,

It is a beautiful, delicate design, hand-painted beneath the glaze ~ the drawings are reminiscent of Japanese suibokuga illustrations, with ink and wash.
