A compact oak sitting stool, carefully conserved and reupholstered in a neutral architectural textile from Zoffany. The timber has been lightly rubbed back and finished with Danish oil, retaining the depth and grain of the oak while allowing signs of age and use to remain visible.
British in origin, the stool sits comfortably within Scandinavian modern interiors. Its clarity of structure, visible joinery, and gently curved front rail soften the geometry of the frame and give the piece a quiet architectural presence.
The upholstery was selected for texture and durability rather than decoration, making the stool equally suited as a piano stool, occasional seat, or footstool within the home.
The design aligns with a broader Northern European furniture tradition that values honest construction and everyday use — a lineage that runs from English Arts & Crafts furniture through to Scandinavian modern design. Comparable forms are illustrated in period documentation of the Heal Cabinet Factory (see Oliver S. Heal, Sir Ambrose Heal and the Heal Cabinet Factory 1897–1939, Unicorn, 2014, p.173).

Why it works
Scandinavian modern design favours furniture that supports daily life without visual excess. This stool does exactly that — compact, tactile, and structurally honest, with materials chosen to age gently over time.
