An unusually rich example of Japanese art glass from the late 1960s–70s, attributed to Narumi Sanyu and closely related to their Fantasy range produced for export.
The vase is formed in thick, heavy glass with vertically ribbed sides that have been subtly twisted while hot, creating a sense of internal movement when viewed from above or in changing light. Deep amber and emerald green tones are fully cased through the glass rather than surface-applied, giving the piece real depth and saturation.
The scalloped rim has been hot-worked and left gently irregular, and the base retains a polished pontil mark — details consistent with Narumi Sanyu’s higher-quality production of the period. As with many examples, the piece is unsigned.
A strong decorative object that sits comfortably alongside Scandinavian and Japanese modernist interiors, and equally effective displayed empty or with simple stems.
