A well-made pair of solid teak bookends, dating from the mid-20th century, with a restrained, architectural form typical of post-war design.
Each bookend is cut from solid teak, with a curved quarter-circle support rising from a thick rectangular base. The construction is simple and honest, with hand-finished edges and subtle irregularities that suggest small-workshop production rather than factory manufacture. The timber has developed a warm, even patina over time, with attractive grain visible across all faces.
Unmarked, but very much in the spirit of Scandinavian-influenced British design of the 1950s: functional, quiet, and well proportioned. Substantial enough to hold weighty books, yet refined enough to sit comfortably on a desk, shelf, or bureau.
A useful and understated pair, well suited to a study, home office, or modern interior.
