Scandinavian Style Noritake Bone China Tea Service 1970s 4 Settings ‘Silverdale’
Scandinavian Style Noritake Bone China Tea Service 1970s 4 Settings ‘Silverdale’
A wonderfully elegant 4 settings tea service by Noritake, in production from 1971 - 1976, and produced in their Irish studio factory.
A simple and beautiful piece of design from Japan; from a well-known homeware maker. It is reminiscent of Tapio Wirkkala designs, where he places the cup on a pedestal.
There is a lovely arrangement between the elegant handle and the teapot spout, which is resoundly modernist in design. It sets up a juxtaposition of styles - traditional and modern; which is integral to this eloquent design. It is an early piece of referential postmodern design.
I have written elsewhere about the affinity between Japanese and Scandinavian design - this design continues the theme, and it is why this simple tea set is in our shop.
Unused condition, and a lovely object.
