Vintage Vaclav Horacek Sklo Pressed Lead Crystal Vase
Vintage Vaclav Horacek Sklo Pressed Lead Crystal Vase
Not Scandinavian but it shares the Midcentury experimental glass making of Scandinavia, by drawing on the landscape and political atmosphere of 1960s Czechoslovakia.
A beautifully striking vase, with a design which captures the light, even on the dullest winter grey day.
It’s a wonderful glasswork on its own, but works brilliantly as a functional vase too.
In the Poděbrady Glassworks, Horácek designs were influenced with his experiments with pressed lead crystal - which, incidentally, makes this a very heavy vase.
The vase’s weight adds to the overall momentum of this piece of design.
The use of lead crystal glass allowed Horácek to concentrate on the effect of refraction of light, which give his designs a unique appearance. This vase is a brilliant example of this experimentation.
The design was made in three iterations: 2 vases and a jardiniere. The one for sale here is the largest of the two vases.
The vase is in perfect condition, without signs of use.
I love it!
