Midcentury Furniture Restoration & Renovation

Breathe life back into the beautiful

Restoration and conservation are closely related but distinct approaches. Restoration seeks to return a piece to its original state, sometimes renewing finishes, replacing elements, or repairing wear so that it looks and functions as it once did. Conservation, by contrast, aims to preserve the integrity of a piece – retaining the evidence of its age, patina, and history, while stabilising it for continued use.

At Scandinavian Modern we lean towards conservation as our guiding philosophy. We believe the marks of time are part of a piece’s story, and we work to protect that character while ensuring durability and function. That said, where appropriate, restoration has its place, and we do not exclude it – our focus is on finding the right balance for each piece. Conservation remains our byword, the thread running through all that we do.

Whether it’s a classic Danish teak sideboard, a well-loved Ercol chair, or a G-Plan coffee table that’s seen better days, we’re passionate about preserving the character and integrity of each piece while ensuring it’s ready for decades more use.

Every item is carefully assessed, sympathetically restored, and finished using traditional techniques and high-quality materials. Our aim is not just to repair, but to revive—maintaining the original spirit of the design while enhancing its function and beauty.

We work with private clients, interior designers, and vintage collectors, offering services that include:

  • Structural and aesthetic restoration

  • Refinishing and reupholstery

  • Custom refurbishments tailored to your needs

If you have a piece in need of attention or are looking for a beautifully restored item with a story, we’d love to help.
