A lovely example of mid-century modern design, for the 1960s home: the perfect marriage of form and function as elegantly the 1960s teak bureau designed by Robert Heritage for the British manufacturer Beaver & Tapley. Part of their successful ‘Multi Width’ range, which reflected the scale of the 1960s house.

This compact and functional writing desk exemplifies the period in British furniture design with subtle Scandinavian influences. It is now a rare piece in this configuration.

Robert Heritage was a distinguished British designer whose work spanned furniture, lighting, and industrial design. Known for his collaborations with Ercol and G-Plan.

Heritage brought a refined modernist sensibility to his creations. Beaver & Tapley, the manufacturer of this bureau, was a respected English firm celebrated for its high-quality, thoughtfully designed furniture in the mid-20th century.

The piece stands on tapered teak legs, a signature element of 1960s modernism, while brass-toned metal handles add a touch of understated 60s glam. Originally the desk was lockable but the keys is now lost. But the keyhole - aligned right, rather than central, is a lovely modernist flourish.

Designed with space efficiency in mind, this bureau is ideal for smaller interiors without compromising on utility.
