Artemide ‘Choose’ Table Lamp by Matteo Thun – Italian Design Classic (2000s)

An original Artemide Choose table lamp, designed by Matteo Thun and made in Italy. This is a very early edition from 2008 - the design was created in 2005  

A beautifully balanced design from one of Artemide’s most refined early-2000s collections. The parchment diffuser pivots gently, filtering light to a soft, warm tone. The form is calm and purposeful — Italian precision softened by Thun’s human-centred approach.

Matteo Thun’s Choose series marked a quiet change in lighting design. Moving away from the sculptural statements of the late 1990s, he returned to warmth, tactility, and everyday presence. The diffuser recalls the honesty of mid-century materials, reinterpreted through a Milanese sense of restraint. A lamp made for living with, not just looking at.

About the Designer

Matteo Thun (b. 1952) trained in Florence and co-founded the Memphis Group before establishing his own studio in Milan. His work for Artemide and other manufacturers balances innovation with warmth — an architect’s clarity paired with a craftsman’s sensitivity. His always reflects a lovely use of contemporary materials fused with classical detail - like the lampshade on this design: modern materials with classical references
