Teak Bowl designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard for Dansk Design in the 1960s.
Wonderful design and use of materials.
Quistgaard, had a love of working with wood, and often made the prototypes of his designs in wood first. Thus love of the material makes his early teak design, made in Denmark, exquisite.
Quistgaard was a Danish designer and sculptor. After a chance encounter, in Copenhagen, with an American entrepreneur, a partnership was agreed, and Dansk Design was formed in the 1954.
The company produced modernist design, mainly for the USA, and Japanese markets. But marketed itself in Europe too. With its flagship store in Copenhagen. In late 1961, Dansk were one of the first design companies to have a ‘pop-up’ exhibition/shop in Harrods of London,.
Quistgaard remained the head designer for over three decades.
