An original set of six G Plan teak dining chairs from the Fresco range, designed by Leslie Dandy in the 1960s.
The G Plan aesthetic is expressed particularly well in the tapering backs, slender vertical splats and gently curved rear legs. Elegant without being delicate, these are among the most recognisable dining chair designs from the Fresco range.
Importantly, the chairs retain their original upholstery, which survives in excellent condition — unusual for a set of this age. The neutral fabric works particularly well against the warmth of the teak.
The frames are also in excellent vintage condition and have been cleaned and lightly conserved in our studio workshop, retaining the original finish and the gentle patina acquired through decades of use.
Why it works
A particularly complete example of British mid-century modernism: Scandinavian influence translated through G Plan into furniture designed for the British home. The tall, rhythmic backs give the chairs a strong architectural presence, while the restrained upholstery keeps the overall appearance remarkably contemporary.
