A pair of signed Swedish studio glass votive holders by Hanne Dreutler, made at Studio Åhus in 2000.
Low, lens-like forms in clear glass encasing a saturated emerald core. The colour sits suspended within the mass — architectural rather than decorative — creating an optical depth that shifts with the light.
Each piece is engraved to the base:
“Studio Åhus Sweden 2000 Hanne Dreutler”
Understated, sculptural, and materially confident.

The Design
Dreutler’s work explores density, colour layering and the quiet geometry of form. Here, a disciplined circular body holds a vivid green inner ring. When lit from above or within, the colour intensifies and appears to float.
They function as tealight holders, small bowls, or simply as glass sculpture.

Measurements (each)
• Diameter: 8.5 cm
• Height: 3.5 cm
• Inner aperture: approx. 4.5 cm
Heavy, solid studio glass with a satisfying weight in the hand.
⸻
Condition
Very good studio condition.
One example shows light surface wear to the base consistent with age and shelf movement. No chips, cracks or structural issues. Signatures clear and legible.
⸻
Why it works
Designed with a modernist narrative: a disciplined form — clear mass holding a saturated core. Colour suspended within structure. Glass reduced to volume, weight and light.
⸻
Maker
Hanne Dreutler (1942–2009) was a significant figure in Swedish studio glass. After earlier work within established glassworks and the founding of Transjö Hytta, she established Studio Åhus in Skåne, where her later practice focused on optical layering, colour saturation and sculptural minimalism.
Works from this studio period represent the mature phase of her career.

Styling Notes
Beautiful paired with:
• Teak surfaces
• Whitefriars or Scandinavian art glass
• A simple linen-dressed table
• Evening candlelight
They sit comfortably within both mid-century and contemporary interiors.
