Holmegaard Large Viking cobalt blue glass bottle/wine decanter, and eight glasses,
Designed by Ole Winther in 1955 for Kastrup Holmegaard in Denmark.
The set comes with the custom teak tray (signed W). It is rare to find the complete set - in a stunning colour too.
Ole Winther, a Danish ceramist, designed the "Viking" wine carafe for Holmegaard in 1955.
Mould blown with hand embellished Viking medallion and slightly iridised pouring lip.
It is an intentionally ‘handmade’ looking piece of glass blowing - which embraces the marks of its making.
Making them very individual pieces - and rare to see a complete set, including teak serving tray.
The glasses each have a horn emblem, set in a medallion.
The carafes continued in production until the mid 1970's.
It has a wonderful rustic, tactile form, which is firmly set in ceramic design.
It’s size, and shape give it an opulent, Dionysian feel to it. And with 8 glasses it shows a generosity of spirit too :-)
