A wardrobe from G Plan's Brandon range — the brand's first collection, designed by V.B. Wilkins and launched in 1953, the moment E. Gomme moved from wartime utility furniture into the modern, matching-range format that would define British midcentury design for the decades that followed.

The vanity fitting itself is the piece's quiet centrepiece: a hinged mirror rises from the top drawer on a simple pivot, designed to be used standing at the wardrobe rather than housed in a separate dressing table. It's a detail that speaks to the compact, dual-purpose thinking of early 1950s British interiors — space-saving by design, not by compromise. Fittings like this were easily lost or damaged over seventy years of use and house moves; finding one still intact and functioning is increasingly rare.
Three doors below provide full hanging and storage space. The original E&G/G-Plan stamp is present and legible, confirming the piece to this earliest phase of the brand's production, before "G Plan" stood alone.
Conserved, not simply restored: surfaces cleaned and hand-waxed, retaining the original finish and natural wear rather than sanding it back or re-tinting the wood.
