Produced by Nathan Furniture in the 1960s, this compact teak sideboard reflects the company’s restrained interpretation of Scandinavian modern design — practical, well-proportioned, and intended for everyday domestic use rather than display for its own sake.

With its shallow depth, open upper shelf, twin drawers, and glazed lower cabinet, the piece sits somewhere between sideboard and display cabinet. The proportions are carefully judged, making it particularly suitable for smaller rooms, hallways, or spaces where a full-depth sideboard would feel intrusive.

Constructed in teak and teak veneer, the cabinet retains its original material language and detailing. It is currently undergoing careful conservation in the studio workshop, where the finish will be gently evened and refreshed, drawers serviced, and the cabinet prepared for long-term domestic use.

Why it works

This is a piece designed to live quietly in a room. Its shallow depth makes it unusually easy to place, while the combination of open shelving, drawers, and glazed storage allows it to adapt to different uses over time — books, records, ceramics, or everyday household objects. Practical, unassuming, and well made, it reflects a period when furniture was designed to fit around life, not the other way round.
